September 28, 2016 – Staff from Levee Ready Columbia returned from Yakima, Washington and the Northwest Regional Floodplain Management association’s annual conference with much acclaim from our peers. The conference provided opportunities to meet with other flood plain managers around the northwest to share strategies and lessons learned. What we learned from these meetings is that our outstanding partnership and stakeholder involvement is the envy of our peers. While we are excited to be a standard setter and look forward to nurturing this area of work, we also learned some lessons. In particular, we saw similar projects around the state that were doing a better job communicating about flood risk. We’ve already started looking for ways to use these lessons in our work.
