October 2013 - Governor designates Oregon Solutions project

Recognizing the scope and scale of this undertaking, the initial partners working on the levee improvement project request Oregon Solution’s assistance with the project. Oregon Solutions provides a system and process for solving complicated community‐based problems that involve a large number of stakeholders. The program originated in the Governor’s office but is now housed within the National Policy Consensus Center at Portland State University.

The first step in the Oregon Solutions process is a two‐month assessment to determine if the project is a good fit for Oregon Solutions. Following the two month assessment, the Governor officially designated the levee improvement effort as an Oregon Solutions project and asked Portland Mayor Charlie Hales and interim Multnomah County Chair Marissa Madrigal to serve as conveners.

“It is clear that accreditation and continued viability of the Columbia River levee is a critical project, not only to protect the homes and properties behind the levee system, but also to ensure the continued economic viability of this important residential and industrial area. Real jobs, and a significant part of the region’s economic activity, are at stake.” – Governor’s Designation Letter
